The food is so awful that most clients must supplement their meals. Try ordering the chicken some night - it's a mash of chicken parts that are not even recognizable. They frequently run out of even common items, such as Lactaid milk.

Response: Not a factual statement....I have visited and had meals many times...the food is well prepared and quite good.

My relative is very happy here. The majority of the staff is very attentive towards the needs of the residents, and are very friendly. The main dining room is conveniently located on the 2nd floor. The building is beautiful and rooms are spacious. It can be expensive if you have to include daily added costs for the distribution of meds and/or care levels. There are 3 care levels, but it's hard to know what kind of service they give for each level. I've rated the "Quality of Care" on the low side, as there is no way of knowing what type of care they would receive, if needed, and am thankful my relative does not require too much, as I feel they may not get the care, due to the number of staff vs. the number of residents. There are 3 floors, with only one elevator and no way for those on the 3rd floor to get outside without using the stairs or elevator. That would be a concern if I lived on the 3rd floor.

Response: Care is determined through and iniitial assessment within 24 hours of the resident's move to Acorn Glen. If no care is needed they are monitored by monthly wellness checks and when care is needed there is a review with the family prior to being placed on a care plan. The care level is determined by how much help the resident needs on a daily basis with showering, dressing, toileting, cognitive direction, etc. All of this information is discussed with the family prior to the resident's move to Acorn Glen along with the pricing structure of each level. Additional information is always available upon request of the family should the resident's needs change as they age in place. No resident is placed on a care level without prior approval of the family.

Response: Actually, I have the same problem as the response above. I have asked, four time (in writing) for a description of each level of care and why the level of care cost has increased each year not 5% as the cost-of-living increases have, but 10%. I have not ever received a reply. The next time I ask, I intend to copy the state Ombudsman.

Response: Not factual...I have had monthly care meetings with the nursing staff and they have explained the levels of care each time and what my mother is being receiving.

My father received the best care while he was at Acorn Glen. It is truly a wonderful facility with caring staff, stimulating activities, great food, and a beautiful building. My father felt comfortable and called Acorn Glen his home. He was there for 5 years and we have wonderful memories of our visits with him.
