My mother is there now. She is progressing in physical therapy. However, the nursing staff is a mixed bag. Some are good, some are not. It depends on who you get. Sometimes, it takes awhile before someone can get to you to give you toileting assistance. The first night my mother was there, she lay in her own defecate for 1-1/2 hours and then had to listen to lectures about "patience." Terrible.

My mother was admitted last night 2 days after surgery. She cannot and is not allowed to walk. When she had to go to the bathroom and requested a bedpan, the aide told her "to go in her depend undergarments," and refused to get her a bedpan. All night long, She had to "go" and sleep in her own mess -ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! They have been reported.

This is a horrible facility. Do not be fooled by it's appearance. If you care about your loved one do not send them here. Many of the nurses and aides are incompetent and abusive. When concerns/complaints are raised the Administator and nursing management are quick to dismiss the issue. When our loved one is more settled, we plan to file a complant with the State and write a letter to the board of directors.

The LPN are fabulous!! the aides and other "weekend" staff need training or another career field.

Response: If you think Meridian is a bad place, why did you give it five stars? My mother just got there and my family and I were excited for her to be in such a good place but it's turning out to be a nightmare. I can't believe facilities are allowed to be run like this. I will tell everyone to STAY AWAY.

    Review - Second Floor Care
The vast majority of the aides were downright abusive (physically and verbally), with few exceptions. Medications were commonly missed, and medical and dietary directives were not followed. The facility is severely understaffed, and nurses are overwhelmed. The average response time for a call for assistance is well over 30 minutes. An aide or assistant will enter room to quickly turn off the call light so it is not recorded, but no one will return to assist your loved one for 30-45 minutes, sometimes longer. The administrative staff will make all kinds of promises, but staff does not deliver and there is no follow through. A lack of continuity of care is a real problem at this facility - contact with the few aides and nurses who seem to care at all is fleeting and sporadic. Residents/patients are often left sitting unattended for prolonged periods of time, often till quite late at night. Physical therapy is a joke here - you will spend more time sitting in your wheelchair waiting for a therapist than time engaged in therapeutic activity. It is an embarrassment for the Meridian name to be attached to this facility and you literally risk the life of your loved one by leaving them in the "care" of those at this establishment.
    Be forewarned.

My mother-in-law was cared for in this facility for 7 years. The staff provided excellent care overall although I would have preferred higher staffing levels. She thrived in this caring environment which was a pleasant surprise for her family.

My 81 yr. old mother was admitted to Shrewsbury, NJ center after cervical spine surgery for rehabiliation. Some of the nurse-aides are abravise and not gentle when dealing with patients. When the nurse-aide responds to my mother's call the aide told her she needs to wait 45 minutes; TWICE. I believe the nursing staff is not experienced in caring for this type of surgery either. To top things off Meridian schedule a follow up visit with her surgeon and transport by ALERT ambulance for a follow up visit with her surgeon in Summit, NJ and hour drive with Meridian giving me, her son, or family member advance notice. They know very well that I've accompanied her on every doctor visits. Communication is terrible. I highly do not recommend this facility and better yet Meridian. I give them a negative -5 stars.

What is senior living? Both words in this phrase are essential, but the key is “Living!” Simply put, senior living is for those age 55 and older who still want to get everything they can out of life—with excellent value, excellent care, and excellent times. It means an engaged, satisfied lifestyle based upon your wants and needs. For some it means independent living, a way to live as usual but without the hassles of home ownership or maintenance. For others it means assisted living, a type of retirement community that still emphasizes your freedom and independence, but always with a ready, friendly staff to assist as needed. For those requiring more intensive help with physical needs or with Alzheimer’s or dementia, senior living means nursing care and memory care. Senior living offers comprehensive continuing care, where retirees can “age in place,” moving from one form of care to another as needed. Finally, senior living also means in-home care, where trained staff help retirees in their current home.
