The overall atmosphere is very warm and inviting upon the initial visit to the property as we were greeted and shown around. The activities seemed fun and my mom seemed very enthusiastic when they told about the crafts room and the transport they had available to local shopping establishments. However, after a couple weeks of being there, my mom became very homesick and a little depressed. She started to tell me that while the activities and amenities were available as promised they became redundant. She said it felt like déjà vou each week. She also mentioned that although the employees were very kind and caring, there was only a hand full of them who actually seemed to care about the well-being of the residents. She explained that most of them would tell her anything just that she would stop bothering them and that the residents were left to fend for themselves, especially in the afternoon when all the employees were gone. Upon further visitations and dining with her on occasion I started to notice some of the points she brought up. The most glaring observation I made was the fact that it was evident that the people who interacted with the residents most were the servers in the dining rooms. While the food was decent and service was great at our upstairs dining area, I could see see that the servers, a side from one hostess who was trying her best to tend to each table, were left to fend for themselves. I never saw any managers walking around sparking up conversations or asking how the service was, nope nada. Management was non existent unless someone had an issue with their food or service that the hostess could not alleviate. I later noticed that the place was close to being a ghost town after the dining service was over as everyone was kinda whisked a back to their apartments. What happened to all the family fun that was promised. Anyways, long story short I got my mom outa there before she got shell shocked. I write this to say if you are considering one of these facilities for you parents and lived ones, especially this one, be sure to do follow up inspections and communicate with your loved one to find out if they are getting what you paid for. They deserve that much at this stage of life. Good luck

We recently moved Mom over to Assisted Living from Independent Living within Dominican Village.
We bought a trundle bed so that my sister could stay over on weekends (as she was doing previously). They informed us the day of the move that she would no longer be able to stay over and to remove the trundle within 3 days or they were going to evict my 88 year old mother out into the street (I kid you not!). When we asked why, they stated that the Dept. of Health did not allow another person to stay over in the assisted living room. We called the Dept. of Health and were told there was no such regulation.
The people who run this facility, specifically the CEO and his wife, were combative, dishonest and disrespectful during any and all conversations we have had with them. I would encourage you to please be VERY careful and explore all other options before considering Dominican Village as an assisted living facility for your loved one.

Everytime I go to visit my parents the security guard is rude to me. I call it the Zimmerman Attitude!
