For three days my mother told the nurses that she had diarrhea, and for all of those days they still kept giving her stool softeners. The staff is incompetent and my mother was in misery.

Disgraceful. My mother never saw a smile from the staff. 4 days there and was never bathed. Not even a hairwash. She was afraid to even ask them for help after day 2. We pulled her out as soon as we could. Pitiful that a place like this is allowed to "care" for people. Shame on you.

I find this facility to be satisfactory to the needs of my father who is currently residing there. He doesn't complain about much, according to my father the food is good as well as the care he is given and the staff is helpful. His only gripe is with the administrator who he describes as phony. His exact words were "that fairy prances around bothering eveyone with jokes that aren't funny meanwhile there is obviously work that needs to be done at the facility, how did this guy get his job?" I was later informed by a friend from Bay Park that he was terminated from his position there which gives me a feeling of uneasiness. I am now debating my father's future at Dewitt because I no longer know if I can trust the quality of this nursing home as long as its being run by the "fairy" in question.

Very good Nursing home. The facility is a bit old and if you see it, you will know what I mean. The people from the Reception down stairs to the Nurses and staff are great. They make my mother feel so good. They are very friendly to me and my family when we go visit. My mother, although she'd rather be home, (But who wouldn't.) Really likes the people who take care of her there. (Advice to anyone looking to place a love one or parent in any nursing home, Make sure you visit often. No place is perfect and if you see something you want to change or if you see something you don't like, say it. But the important thing is visiting your love one. People notice who gets visitors and who doesn't. It can be a really sad thing.)

Response: My father was just transferred out of there and it couldn't happen soon enough!
Not only is the place depressing in its appearance(not to mention the old and very slow elevators),everything is old and poorly constructed. The rooms are crowded and there are no chairs for the visitors.
The staff, with some exceptions, were slow to respond and seemed annoyed with questions regarding my father's care or condition. We often were not informed and had to ask -or find out accidentally-what was going on with my Dad. For example,I found out quite by accident that he had been diagnosed with vascular dementia and was being given aricept!
He also got c-dif when he was there and had to be put in isloation. I realize that these things happen, but in this case I firmly believe it was due to lax behavior on the part of the care providers. The cleanliness of the place leaves a lot to be desired.
There was one day room on each floor that was barren and depressing. There was very little stimulation and activities offered to the residents or opportunities to socialize.
I know that the staff gets busy, but they shouldn't forget things like whether or not your parent got their medicine or a needed treatment.
The PT was good and the patio is nice-there's a game room on the 17th floor that's nice but there's not much going on that all residents could participate in throughout the week.
I was told I could not bring my dog,and I found out by accident
that I could bring him if I brought him up to the 17th floor. He wasn't allowed in the rooms or even the patio, which I thought was odd,yet as I said, the cleanliness of the place left a great deal to be desired.
The food was generally ok,but nothing to brag about, but that was the least of their problems.
Bottom line-don't let your parents go there if they need a skilled nursing and rehab facility!

Response: So let's get this straight: you grieve about how dirty you think the place is [which is only subjective to how much experience you have in healthcare anyhow] but you expect concessions to be made for your dirty dog to jump all around the facility?

Yeah, sure....

Response: I Agree... I even felt as if i was in a 3rd world country. Its Just SAD a rehab faculty in NYC with these conditions. If you love your family members please I suggest not to take them there...
