Central Island Healthcare is an average sized, for profit, nursing home with 202 beds based in Plainview, NY. At last check, the facility had 165 residents indicating that it is 82% occupied which is less than average within the state of New York. The provider accepts both medicare and medicaid programs, and provides resident counseling services.
This nursing home is not located in a hospital or a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). As of November 2012, the medicare rating for Central Island Healthcare, was 3 stars, which is a better rating than 59% of nursing homes in New York.

This place is an absolute treasure. The staff were all sweet, warm, and caring. My father was ready to give up on life when he arrived for short-term rehab, and through the encouragement of their staff, he progressed a little bit each day. The nurses made him feel comfortable even though this was the first time in his life that he was not independent. The therapists were amazing at encouraging my Dad to participate in the therapy and to give it his all. Even the activities were fun - music, bingo, or just to watch sports in his room at night. After a couple of weeks he was back to his old self and walked out the front door on his own to return home. This is a field where many complain but few complement, however my father and I were extremely happy and would recommend this fine healthcare center to anyone needing rehab or nursing home care :)

make sure you go to the basement when you go on the tour. they didn't bring us there, now i know why. most of the pt is done there - it is disgusting. it is a 10 ft x 30 ft filthy room and they line the patients up like cattle and work on them one at a time. make sure you request it - you won't be back.
overall, it was awful. only saving grace was lovely man named Alan that played piano during dinner hours. he was fantastic and was the only thing positive about the place. we were stuck, cause it was only local place with a room at the time. stay away. staff was bitter and angry and treated the patients that way. one dr in the whole place. how can he possibly know each patient? food was worse than wwII rations (direct quote). stay away. it is a filthy, dirty, sad place. wheeled in to dining room to eat and left there - wheeled out. doesn't matter if they ate or not. most slept through their meal (smart- haha). can't say enough negative things about it.
