As a resident, I can tell you: avoid at all costs. New owners in December 2017 cut costs on everything: 2-3 aides for 45 people average, no sheets, wash cloths, chux, diapers, inedible food. Short staffed in the laundry room, kitchen, nurses, as well as aides. Some great staff, but they quit because they are treated so poorly. Some horrible staff also-ignore when a call bell is rung, or are abusive. Imagine waiting 2 hours to have wet underwear and sheets changed. Only saving grace is the Activity Room, and physical therapy staff, and the dedication of staff that work while missing breaks because they are such caring people.

Nothing to like about this facility. When bruising shows up on patients incident reports should be made as well as families not being notified instead of covering things up with a " she's just confused" or " we don't know how it happened" Maybe if the nursing staff did checks on the residents as they are supposed to instead of figuring out how to hide the abuse being given, Barnwell would do better than just one star ratings. The director of nursing should wake up before the facility is turned in for gross neglect and abuse. A poor rating is being generous, it is well below any nursing home in area. Only thing is Medicare which most seniors have, only contracts with certain nursing homes in the area unless you want to travel north or south out of the area. Guess you get what you pay for.

PT and OT excellent. Nursing, dietary and housekeeping way below par.

I worked at this facility briefly and thank god for that none of the residents were provided the proper materials for basic hygiene such as soap, shampoo, conditioner etc employees were at many times were forced to provide these materials at their own expense to ensure residents were in fact clean. The staff was the rudest staff I have ever worked with and were completely unwilling to provide any assistance or helpful information about the residents. Their CNA program is a complete joke and most if not all students (if they even pass the test) chose to leave and work elsewhere. As a result of this residents are forced to be changed, looked after, etc by a group of strangers more often then not. I have worked in the healthcare field for over 20yrs and would not send a dog to this facility let alone one of my loved ones.

Response: I have to totally agree. How does the state let this facility continue to run.

I was a past rehab person at this facility years ago when it was awful. Dirty, old building that needs a good cleaning. And EVERY meal was wrong, the food was terrible, the nurses were basically lazy and mean, the aides were drop-out high school girls. I see by the other reviews, they haven't gotten any better. Why hasn't the health department shut them down yet?

Response: Agree strongly. I have even seen bruises show on their patients that go unreported. Worse care from nursing I have ever seen. While patients are waiting for care and call bells are ringing, they sit at the desk chatting.

If it wasn't for the P.T and O.T People who rate 5 out of 5 the rest of them would get a zero. If it wasn't for the aides those nurses would not know their assess from their elbow and you can't count on anybody's word for stuff to get done and one more thing I feel bad for the people that don't have somone looking out for them.

Response: I am not seeing where the aides are any better than the nurses. They all turn a blind eye to the low standards of care being given. It is obvious they are all there for a pay check and not the patients.
