User Reviews

11/08/2012  -  An OurParents User Writes:

My mother, 93, has been an invalid (lifted by a crane, etc.) over 4 years, and she has been a resident in the highest level of Health Care at Southminster about 7 years. She is cared for with great love and care. The staff responds quickly to any complaints, comments. They want to be excellent. My father was still pretty-much "with it" during his several years in this Health Care. I was always asking him how he liked it, and he always responded he did. Prior to their living in Health Care, they lived in independent living since 2001. They loved it.
Although I live out-of-town, a brother and a sister visit about weekly. When I go I stay in a guest room, and thus, show up at all odd times and hours.
We are very satisfied with the fine, care. Although an invalid, my mother is fully dressed-to earrings-each morning before she is brought from her room.
She is taken to the beauty-parlor in health care once a week. She is fed at a table, 3 meals a day. The soundings are lovely.

Description of Southminster Retirement Community in CHARLOTTE, NC

Built In 1987 , Number of Beds : 60

For seniors who wish to stay in their own homes, Southminster is available every day with a wide-range of services. Senior care professionals assist with a variety of non-medical needs, including medication reminders, running errands, meal preparation, and grooming assistance. You'll also find assisted living, independent living, in-home care, skilled nursing, continuing care and rehab services provided by this community. Assisted living offers a warm, supportive, and nuturing atmosphere for individuals who require some help but still want to keep their self-reliance. Assisted living is advantageous for seniors. Studies reveal that living near peers and participating in social activities leads to a happier life. With assisted living, you'll find senior-friendly residences and a warm staff. Communities have additional services that include 24-hour supervision and security, emergency response systems, access to licensed nursing care, chef-prepared meals, and assistance with grooming, dressing, and bathing. Housekeeping, laundry, social programs, and local transportation are usually provided, too. When you are autonomous but want the comraderie of your peers, choose indepedent living and enjoy amenities and services geared towards seniors. Serving both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as senior apartments, retirement villages, and communities for 55 and older. Residents stay in private apartments or individual homes with an abundance of community amenities, services, and programs tailored specifically for seniors. Your personal belongings, such as furniture and favorite mementos, can move to your new home with you. With maintenance, groundskeeping, and housekeeping taken care of, seniors can focus on goals and passions instead of the daily demands of home ownership. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. Community services and amenities usually include fitness clubs, dining facilities, swimming pools, golf courses, hiking trails, social events, and more. Imagine the mixed feelings of pleasure and relief to be a fully independent senior knowing that as you age you will live in the type of community that best fits your physical and/or mental condition. This is the case with a continuing care retirement community, which is specially set up to allow seniors to move through various stages of living, from independence to assisted living and, if needed, to medically focused nursing care. Some seniors, as they age and begin to need assistance, simply do not wish to leave the place they’ve called home for many years. Sometimes they bought their dream home upon retirement. Sometimes it is the house where they raised their children and watched their families grow up. For them, the walls and floors resonate with memories. A caring, in-home staff understands this and is dedicated to making seniors as comfortable and as satisfied as they can possibly be. Services are available twenty-four-hours a day, seven days a week. Home care consists of various medical and non-medical support services. When you are ready for assistance, medical and non-medical professionals are ready to help with a wide range of services. An assisted living community provides help as you need it, with the goal of supplying the services required to stay as autonomous as possible. When seniors are autonomous but want the comraderie of peers, choose indepedent living and enjoy a variety of amenities and services. Continuing retirement care is dedicated to making the phases of the aging process as smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible. It achieves this through offering long-term, comprehensive assistance, from independent living to assisted living to skilled nursing care. In-home care is helpful for seniors when they need it. Care professionals will bring their expertise and experience to your home. This choice is perfect for those who would like to stay in their homes but who need some help with the daily activities of living. These services, available 24 hours a day, every day, are paid for by the individual or through public and private funding sources, such as Medicare and/or Medicaid.
