Our mother was here for 12+ years until her death at 103...we never considered relocating elsewhere. The staff in building, especially mom's 500 hall, were caring, dedicated hardworking people. Mom was an easy, non-demanding resident; she was in very good health but was immobilized & unable to walk due to arthritis and back injury. We volunteered here weekly and visited almost daily...translation = alot of observation. Mom was always content, clean and comfortable. We cannot comment on the night staff since our visits occurred during the day when mom was most alert. We had only two criticisms. One was that despite repeated requests, I was never informed when the optometrist or podiatrist would be visiting the building for exams. Mom was deaf and it would have been easier if we were there and could get a first hand report. The second problem was regarding her bed. Mom would 'escape' from a regular hospital bed trying to get to the bathroom. Needless to say, she fell a few times, once incurring a broken hip. The facility would temporarily switch her to a "Hi-Lo" bed, that lowered completely to floor. After some patient advocacy intervention, mom was assigned a Hi-Lo bed permanently.
And yes there were some occasional oversights regarding water, the buzzer, and alarm....the CNA workload is daunting! But overall, in 12+! years and with a constant presence, we felt that the facility treated our aged, frail mother with "TLC" and respect.

Facility is very clean! Staff became more helpful as time progressed. CNAs on 100 hall were exceptional in their caring attitudes for the patients.

Basic levels of standard of care not provided. Alarms not on, beds not in safe position, patients complaining of no call bell within reach and no fluids at bedside within reach. Nutrition not provided to confused patients noted on several occasions. Client not within reach of tray to eat. RN refusing to give or get pain medications for client noted. Some RNs very helpful and others quite rude. CNAs some staff professional and others should be dismissed.
Linen on floor on several occasions and clients bedside tables and room in disarray.

If Larry Russell is your doctor, watch out. I have seen many death certificates that he has signed. Lots of his patients " fail to thrive ". I looked that up and it is more common for pediatrics.

I too think that at night the residents are in fear of the staff, they know no one is going to visit family at night so they can get by with whatever! My grandmother has had fingernail marks that were left bleeding for a week, she has fallen and hit her head, she says one nurse in particular has kicked her and she has the marks to prove it, she also says the same nurse gets into bed with her! We have reported it but the higher ups say it was investigated and no bad results we found. What do you do?

Response: Call me and I can possibly help. Chris 828-808-6343
