They can[t keep a nursing director or an administrator. Turnover is terrible, moral is terrible. Beware

Response: The Staff are friendly and personable. I've had an excellent experience with my loved one. we have been to other facilities before and our family has found a team we can work with. That means a lot to us.

We had a bad experience with Blumenthal's. They do not care about the patients. When problems are reported they are overlooked. There has been several cases when lights are on and staff members do not go check on the patients. The staff members act like they don't care about the patients.

Had a good friend go here after having a major stroke and being paralyzed completely on her left side. 1st week there an employee left my friend sitting on the toilet from which she promptly fell off and hit her head on the ceramic tile floor. She had a black eye and entire left side of face was purple with bruising. Facility did not do a CT scan or MRI to see if any damage to her skull or brain after such a hard fall. In addition, her personal clothing and blankets did not make it back to her after being laundered. When I once reported the missing blanket to the director she informed me the laundry person was on vacation and it hadn't been washed yet. Really? No one else did laundry except 1 person for the whole facility? Also, she suggested that next time there was a problem for me to use the notebook at the front desk to write down my issue, instead of calling her. Moreover, while I was frequently there for visits, I saw a CNA repeatedly eating a patient's lunch/dinner. I heard different helpers/CNAs say they were going out to their cars for a nap & would be back in a little while. Food was terrible. My friend asked several times for decaffeinated tea and they didn't have it. I don't know why a nursing home wouldn't have decaf tea for it's elderly/medicated patients. Then to top off the poor care, my friend quickly contracted C-Diff from this facility and later died from complications. We couldn't believe how quickly she went downhill after her admittance to Blumenthals. They were just terrible.

Response: C-diff isn't develops from a weakened immune system.

Response: While you are correct that C. difficile is considered a member of the normal gut microflora and that it can develope from a weakened immune system, but that is an oversimplification. The major factor in "C-diff" as you call it, is an imbalance between different members of each individual's gut microbiota. Many factors influence this balance.
The greater issue in this complaint is the lack of empathy and over excess of apathy shown by both the staff, especially the management at this facility. I have seen it first hand! There is a VERY GOOD reason this facility gets only two stars for health care, one star for staff and two stars overall. What I can't figure out is the discrepancy with these ratings and the five star rating you get for quality.
So, yes, you have addressed "C-diff" now, what about the whole host of other issues raised in this complaint?

The staff at Blumenthals are unfriendly and appear to be overworked or incapable of making good decisions on patient care. Our famlily member went from a hope that she could do physical therapy and return home to being in Hospice care in 5 months. She was not fed when she stopped eating and it was all downhill from there. They did not encourage her to use a walker and moved her quickly to a wheel chair. It was a very sad situation for our family. Please do not use this facility.

Unless things have changed substantially, I find some of these 5 star reviews amazing. My spouse's care was poor at best. Medication errors resulting in bizzare behavior. Lack of care during rehabilitation for a broken hip was noticeable. Lack of concern during a new diagnosis of a problem with circulation in her other leg (although the amputation may have happened anyway, it was done within 2 weeks of her release). Some of the aides were uncaring and inconsiderate. The food was poor. I remember one Sunday dinner I had with her vividly: an egg salad sandwich (very little egg), cold pickled beets, three different types of juice to drink and tasteless pudding of some sort. We were happy to get her out of there!

Response: This facility offers the poorest of care. The sanitation is not good and the staff are not friendly and apparently understaffed. It not a place where I would want anyone to spend their final days.

This facility is a true leader in Person Centered Care - I have had my mother her since 2005 - they offer a continental breakfast, new spa treatments, wireless internet, they have created a real home for the residents - nurses stations were replaced for living areas for the residents

my mother has been a resident at this facility for 2 years. We have been very happy with the care. The staff is now her second family. They are caring and I don`t know what we would have done without them. We have always felt comfortable taking any issues to the facility administration and their is always a quick resolution to out issues

10/21/2011  -  An OurParents User Writes:

My father was a patient for several weeks and lost over 20 lbs. while he was there -- bad food, poor care and terrible attitude from the staff.

10/11/2011  -  An OurParents User Writes:

My father received terrible care here. We had to move him elsewhere. Medications were brought 2 hours after calling, if at all and no one ever responded to his calls for assistance to restroom! Staff was unfriendly and complaints were disregarded. Please, if you care about your relative, avoid this place at all costs.

05/25/2011  -  An OurParents User Writes:

I would rate the quality of care a 4 and the over all rating a 4 if the Medical Director Dr. South was more competent. He has given sub-standard care to my mother during her 3 month rehabilitation there.

11/04/2010  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Mom did not receive therapy as promised, no supper or lunch tray on admission date- she is diabetic. Questionable financial goings on!

Response: So sorry that your experience with us was not positive - we are dilligent to resolve any issues that come up during a patients stay with us and are very open to reviewing any issues that you feel are unresolved. Please feel free to contact the facility administrator to discuss any issues.

My father was a patient at this facility and his care was excellent. He went to the facility after hip surgery and he now lives in his own apartment. I would highly recommend.

    Response: Thank you.
