As a family member of a recent resident of Carrington Place in Matthews, NC, I want to give my opinion of my mother's stay for two and a half years. When she entered she was alert, attentive, and oriented. The first two years seemed to go well although issues had to be brought to the attention of the staff on numerous occasions. After new management came in my mother's health declined. Any issues brought to them by me or family members were either ignored or swept under the carpet. There was no communication from the staff and no one seemed to ever be able to answer questions. I had to address many issues, such as a terrible yeast infection under her breasts, which no one seemed to know about. She had bruises on her arms that no one would or could account for and she was hit in the mouth by the Hoya lift by a former employee. The staff for the last six months of mother's life were uncaring and unattentive (with the exception of about five which were not even her caretakers).
During the last month of her life my mother developed a cough, which is an indication of CHF in the elderly. I notified numerous members of the nursing staff that mother had a history of CHF and their comment to me to explain swelling, etc. was "it was because she has been up today". She was finally transported to the hospital where she was indeed diagnosed with CHF and pneumonia. She lignered for nine days before passing away.
I have sent pictures to the state because I feel that this was nothing short of neglect and is unacceptable. I do this in hopes that no one else's loved one will have to go through what my mother did and their family losing them before it is necessary.

I have been trying to get a corrected bill for the last month. My mother was billed for services not rendered and the facility received payment from Medicare and BCBS for those services. They stopped feeding my mother and we were never informed just happened to walk in and catch it.

Patients are ignored when they need assistance. Staff is very unfriendly. The patients are miserable being "stuck" there. Staff do not know what they are doing.

Response: I worked at this facility. Patient care is poor. Aides disappear and are not available for patient care.
Shortcuts to patient care frequent. Severely lacking in experienced, reliable care staff.

Response: I agree. When my mom was there twice for rehab, the residents were ignored. I helped a lot of them while I was visiting.
