A couple staff members in the PT and OT depts. were very good consistent and carefull one or two others not so much. Same for nursing staff and doctors on the Healthsouth should short term care. A few aides and nurses were careless and thoughtless. Absolutely no transparency to know who to call when having problems for floor manager, nursing supervisors or upper level administrators. When you finally do track someone down the follow up is non existent. Check the website you will see what I am taking about. Any patient who cannot fend for themselves due to any kind mental or physical condition would not thrive here. I would not recommend anyone take a family member to this facility unless you plan to be there 24/7.

I am 22 years I was a patient at The Drake Center for almost 4 months for rehab (May-August 2011). When I went in, I had a tracheostomy, was not able to walk AT ALL, had a wound on my abdomen that was 11" across and 1" deep with a wound vac, an ileostomy, and was not even able to hold a cup of water. Injuries I substained from a gunshot wound. Their therapy team is AMAZING! And the wound care nurses are unbelievable. How anyone could have anything negative to say about them is beyond me. I left there in early August and was walking, performing self care, my wound was half the size it was when I entered and still healing, I was able to perform my own wound/ostomy care thanks to Anne and the wound care team, no trach, and able to care for myself with minimal assistance. The nurses and aides at the Drake Center are angels, I even bought some of them angel pins before I was discharged. I loved this place so much and was so amazed at their service to me that I plan to work there when I graduate from nursing school.

I was not happy with the care my mother received at Drake. The hospital chose to place her in a nursing home which could not provide care for my medical fragile mother. She died a month after leaving Drake. I feel that they were more concerned with profit and what the insurance would pay than with my mother's health. They did not help with her bed sore which she had when she went in and still had when she left. If she said she did not want to have OT or PT or vent weaning that day, the staff just said OK and did not do anything else, only gave her drugs to keep her quiet. Everyone I asked a question of gave me a differnt answer or no answer at all. I would not send anyone ever again to Drake Hospital.

Response: they did the same to my mom i knew she needed to be in a hospital but they kept saying we do the same thing here....after i demanded for her to be moved to uc she died that night....she laid there for days in a coma type state and they didn't or wouldn't tell me what was the matter or just did not no...i feel they let her die!!!

Drake LTAC, most nurses were very rude. I am my mother's medical POA and was trying to do a minimal amount of communication since my mother is now unable to speak due to her stroke. I was treated with an enormous amount of disrespect and getting information was so difficult. At one point they told me I could get one phone call per day limited to 10 minutes at a time convenient to them. Their patient advocate was a nightmare. He hung up on me twice and when I asked him why he stated I hung up on him. The doctors had a critical piece of my mother's medical information wrong and when I was upset about this and complained many staff members didn't want to hear my concern and bounced me around to other people, made ridiculous excuses for having incorrect medical info, hung up on me repeatedly, refused to talk at all and at one point told me I could only speak to a patient advocate (who seems to be very mentally unstable). Denied access to my mother's info at times. Told my mother's vitals were normal over and over when her blood pressure readings were very off at times.
