Very Poor Rehab faciity. Actually it is not poor,
it's non-existant.

This review is on the Skilled Nursing Unit. I found the staff very willing to help, but lacking in knowledge, especially with a patient that has complicated medical issues. Since they all wear shirts that say "Wellness Specialist" you don't know who is a nurse. The paperwork for medication is so complicated that meds are often given wrong. The RN's don't seem to be able to recognize life threatening situations.

My mother was there for one week for rehab and then to return to her home. She passed away due to major mistakes made by the RNs and the doctor handling her case. No one seemed to realize that she was going into kidney failure even after told them that it looked like the early signs and asked for her to be returned to the hospital. The doctor also refused to put her back on the diuretic which was the only thing that allowed her kidneys to work.

I would not recommend sending a loved one to the Skilled Nursing unit at Twin Lakes.

Response: Hello,

I just read your review for twin lakes as I am looking for a place for my mother. I am SO SORRY to hear what happened. As caregivers it seems we know a lot more about our mother's medical conditions, medications, and how to manage their overall health better than the professionals. There has been many times when my mother was admitted to a nursing facility and the Dr. decided to stop giving her a specific medication for whatever reason. This last time the Dr. discharged her anxiety medication which she has been taking for years. He was not a psychiatrist, and failed to realize that patient's have to ween off of psychiatric meds or otherwise suffer horrible withdrawal symptoms.

Anyway, your review brought tears to my eyes. I am glad you wrote the review to inform others of the tragic mistakes that probably occur more often that the public is aware of. Did you contact Medicare or a Senior Legal Aid society?

Sincerely,
Carolyn
