My dad was there in 2012 for what was supposed to be rehabilitation for knee replacement. What rehab!!?? Staff was rude to him. Corrected him as if he were a child during the so called rehabilitation. Medication was not given to him correctly. Given all at once early in the morning on a empty stomach. He had to urinate in a trash can beside his bed more than once because there were no staff to help him. He developed a GI bleed due to his medication improperly administered. Could not eat. When we took him out of there via ambulance with lights and siren. He was dehydrated to the point his veins could not be found. This all took place on about a week. Hey, where were the trained people who should have seen all this! Place looks nice...Don't let the cover fool you. I almost lost my dad.

Autumn Health Care of Thornville is the perfect facility for you or your family if you want a facility that is dirty, smells awful, has rude staff and a corrupt corporate office. Staff often has graphic, disturbing conversations of what goes on behind the scenes at the facility and the corporate offices. Nurse Aides are rude and take their time answering to patients tending to their personal conversations. Nurses talk trash about one another to patients, often let needs go and rarely preform assessments and wound care properly. Housekeeping tends to stands round in hallways gossiping or listening to private conversations. Management spends more time outside smoking cigarettes and complaining about their jobs, pay and he corporate personnel. Oh and you and your loved one will thoroughly enjoy learning of the many relationships between management and the floor staff and the owner and his many affairs.

My father needed to stay there while our family went out of town ( he resided with us at our home and could not be left alone). Because he was a "private pay" resident, we did not thInk that he received the skilled nursing care that others with known illnesses or surgeries were given. Several times I ( his daughter) would visit and find him laying in urine, and he rarely was made to attend his therapies or eat and socialize with others. I visited every day unless I was out of town. He developed a diabetic sore on his leg which required medical attention, and that caused his visit to be extended. One of the skilled nurses contacted me by phone and voiced concern over his declIne, and he was paying over $5000 a month to stay there! He was left alone in a room in a hallway far away from a nurses station. This lack of monitoring I believe caused him to fall and break his shoulder, which was the beginning of the end. He died almost 2 months later. While I do not directly hold the Autumn at the Lake personnel directly responsible, I do not feel that he was given adequate treatment as a private patient. I would never use them again. They seemed understaffed all the time. I would be happy to discuss my concerns further if you need more information. Please don't let the beautiful building fool you. There are grave concerns on the inside. You may reach me at [email protected]
