The Lutheran Home staff provides excellent, professional care to Assisted Living residents, long-term and skilled patients, and people with Alzheimer's! They also offer amazing life enriching activities--like the annual car show which takes place on the 2nd Sat. in June every year. What a super event for residents and their families! The Lutheran Home is also the only faith-based senior life community in Westlake. If your loved-one went to church their entire life, then the Lutheran Home is the place to be. They have a full-time Lutheran Chaplain and part-time Catholic Chaplain (nun) who offer wonderful spiritual care to people of all faiths. Catholic services are held every Sunday morning. Rosary is said on Tuesdays. Ecumenical worship is held on Wednesday morning and on Sunday afternoons. I can't say enough good things about the spiritual care my father received at the Lutheran Home following his stroke! It is such a blessing to have the Lutheran Home here in Westlake.

My mother was in hospital and needed to go to a skilled nursing home for PT/OT to get her strength back before returning to her apartment. After visiting several options and discussing them with her we chose the Lutheran home. We notified the case manager at the hospital who then contacted the home. On Monday afternoon they informed the case manager that my mom’s case was “too complicated for them to handle”. Multiple doctors at the hospital stated there was nothing complicated about my mom’s case. She needed PT/OT and an antibiotic once a day. The case manager reached out to the home multiple times Tuesday to find out what their concerns were. The admissions staff at the Lutheran home would not take their calls nor return their messages. I had to leave work early on Tuesday to evaluate other options. My mother is now at St. Mary of the Woods (5 Stars) where the Admissions staff easily, and professionally, worked with the case manager to define a plan to have my mother moved to their facility. (They have not had any issues “handling” my mom’s case.)

I’m actually thankful my mother did not get into the Lutheran home if their care practices are anything like their admissions practices – lack of professionalism/responsiveness. Be careful – the case manager stated this is not the first time they have had issues with the Lutheran home. Additionally it was believed by hospital personnel that the real issue is was insufficient staff.

When my father had a stroke, LHCR was our first choice for his rehab. What a wonderful staff! What a beautiful campus! Throughout his stay, my father treated in a professional & caring manner from the dietary staff to the therapy department. Our family loved the Main Street with its Chapel, café, library, duck pond and enormous aquarium--it's like a Georgetown street with little village shops. Our family highly recommends the Lutheran Home for rehabilitation.

I have had association with the Lutheran Home on numerous occasions and I always experience a warm welcome. Staff are courteous and the campus is beautiful, clean and homelike. I would not hesitate to recommend the Lutheran Home to family and friends.

The staff need a makeover. Staff members come and go, grandma never had the same nurses and aides-which led to them forgetting large things and leading to a severe fall which required stitches. To top it off my grandmas one nurse at Concord Reserve was arrested for drunk driving-the arrest of her nurse had us not to go back to Lutheran when she was last at the hospital.

Surprised how the care has declined from when my aunt was in the facility in 2007, moved my mom out of the facility in summer 2012 as it is not the same place it used to be.

Response: That's because they just care about looking good now and put all their time and money into that and not training staff like they used to.

As a Lutheran, I am blessed to be associated with this caring, faith-based, non-profit senior life community. Lutheran church partners throughout NE Ohio have supported the mission & ministry of the Lutheran Home since 1932. The residents are cared for like beloved members of the family.

I used to sing there when I was a Brownie! When it was our families turn to make that hard choice that is the only place I would consider. My Mom was treated like family by the staff.

The staff are rude, they do not answer your questions and they do not complete their job. My father was ignored and we all had to wait for answers forver. They advertise as non profit, but dont act like it.

You get the feeling you are a number and not a truly cared for family member, the size brings that out and some people are cold.

07/07/2012  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Not a good facility. My mom had so many different nurses and aides, most of whom were new. Nursing supervisor told me they are always hiring and firing staff and apologized for the mistakes the new staff make. They put all their money in the new building and not staff.

Response: Where is "down" the street

06/21/2012  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Building is nice but care needs a good amount of work and staff stability needs to improve, we now get better care down the street.
