my father in law was readmitted in january of this year for the second time. he was not doing well at all and actually the doctors at the hospital said he would probably have to stay in the nursing home IF je even made it at all. the people at bellevue was encouraging, listened, offered assurance and comfort. at the end of this month we will be taking him home. therapy was awesome working with him. taylor, agnes and areielle are awesome nurses back on 789. francine is his favorite aide. when he admitted he had wounds from the hospital and kareem the wound nurse jumped right in there and the wounds healed quickly. it could have been a completely different scenario for us as a family but it isnt. they take time with him and are ever so patient with him and us the hovering family members. thank you bellevue.

If there was an option for 0 zero stars, that's how many I would have given this place. I'm not quite sure if people actually take the time to read these reviews, but I hope and pray they do before sending a loved one to this facility.
My complaints are mostly about the staff, and the food. I am amazed at the employees that work in this facility. Granted, there are some wonderful and outstanding ones, but the majority, need to be fired. The conversations that happen at this place are UNREAL. From sex talk, to "nut-shotting" the men, to talking about getting other staff fired??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?!? Since when did all of this become more important than taking care of the residents in this facility? How about the girls twerking, and then posting the video to facebook???(News flash ladies, once you post it on the internet IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE!!! For anyone to find, I might add) Are those the kind of employees you want working for you? To represent your "upstanding" facility?? It's amazing the things you hear in a place like this when they think no one is around. Can we talk about the rumored drag racing in your parking lot??? Once again, are these the type of people you want to employ??? To represent your "upstanding" facility??? How about we talk about the liability of the facility if anything were to happen when these people were doing what they were doing. Or if a resident had somehow got out the door and into the parking lot, and gotten hit? How would you have explained that situation to a family member, such as myself?? Massages at the front desk are also extremely unprofessional in my opinion. If you want a massage, there is a time and a place, and it's not at your place of employment!
Is there a cell phone policy? Almost every time I turn around someone is on their phone. I've passed numerous employees on Facebook (probably uploading their newest twerking video), or playing games, WHILE A CALL LIGHT IS ACTIVELY GOING OFF. Ridiculous. Even supervisors are on their phones!!!
At night, while visiting my family member, the cackling hens are at it, up at the front nurses station. If I can hear you halfway down the hall, you are being WAY too loud. The laughing, and the yelling, and the clapping.....don't you all have a job to do???

Now the food. Sometimes the food is great. But don't you think you should offer a resident that is on a pureed diet more than the same thing at every meal? I mean, do they need mashed potatoes twice a day? Every day? If that was me, I would refuse to eat it. One time, my family member was sent solid food (as in crunchy tacos) and she has no teeth!! REALLY?? Was someone asleep that day?
I have also heard more than one of the Thompson owners making racial comments towards people of Latino and African ethnicity. Calling them lazy, etc. That right there, is how you go straight out of business.
I will NEVER in my life, allow another family member to EVER enter this facility again. This place needs to be shut down for good. All those employees in there need to do some updated education on how to properly care for the elderly. I don't believe twerking and drag racing fit the description
People please, read these reviews and take to heart what we are saying. Our loved ones are being cared for by these people. How good can their care be? Are your loved ones receiving the right treatment? I can't be with my loved one 24/7 (and if I had gotten my way they wouldn't be here in the first place) and it frightens me to leave her in this place. Breaks my heart when I leave every time.
I hope that I can help someone make the right decision!

Response: Obviously a disgruntled former employee.

My mother spent 2 weeks at Bellvue after knee replacement surgery. We were very pleased from beginning to end. The facilities were clean, beautifully decorated, and everyone made my mom feel comfortable and cared for. The nurses and physical therapists were great! They were all very friendly and genuinely cared about my mothers recovery. The meals were great and she got a bath every day. They also have a full service beauty salon. The family on staff checked in on her everyday and made sure that she was happy, progressing, and well cared for.
I would highly recommend this facility. When your loved one is going through a difficult time and needs extra help, you want the best care for them. Bellvue made that possible and gave us peace of mind. The experience overall was great!!!

Response: Why don't you answer a call light instead of playing on the internet? No reviews for literally YEARS,then you have 1 VALID negative review and amazingly 4 positive reviews follow within a week? We learn ethics in nursing school, too bad you have forgotten that!

Response: Obvious employee. It's a shame the owners continue to focus on providing fake reviews instead of fixing problems. No reviews for over a year, then several "glowing" recommendations in a few days?

Great facility with caring staff and wonderful administration. Would highly recommend. My mother spent approximately 4 weeks on the therapy unit and in that time was able to regain her strength and health to return to her home. Physical and occupational therapy staff were attentive and worked her hard! My mother also complimented the food and was even brought soup at night when she asked for a snack. Administration was in the building every day including weekends. We would absolutely use this facility again if needed---my mother loved it and felt well cared for!

If the facility administrators cared as much for their residents as they did for writing fake Internet reviews, this place would be great! Unfortunately, it is filthy, (smells like feces or mold, depending on your location in the building) full of lazy/rude/incompetent staff, and the worst place my poor mother ever spent time in. AVOID!

I have several issues with this place, my mother was in there for awhile for skilled nursing and she got and UTI and yeast infection because they did not change her often enough especially on weekends, I went to check on her everyday and Saturdays and sundays, they did not much of anything for her she was soaked and stunk from urine on several days and was laying in her poop which caused her infections, they had rubbed the top layer of her skin off when they wiped her bottom also. They would leave her in a wheelchair and let her fall out. She was supposed to get showers 3 times a week and only got maybe 3 the whole time she was there. I had to change her on a number of occasions. And there was an occasion where a nurse had slapped her. During the week wasn't near as bad as on weekends though!

I had to admit my father for physical therapy. This is the first time I had to do this and it was all so confusing. From the moment I walked in and followed dad down to his room I felt like a burden had been lifted. Everybody was helpful. We did not sit anywhere for long. Therapy walked right in and did an evaluation and off he went to therapy. Nursing aides were great. They knew dad and what his favorite foods which way he liked to lie down and even his favorite tv shows. The only thing I saw that I did not like for me personally was he had a room mate but dad did not seem to mind. Dad said he likes the food and everybody helped him and he was happy doing therapy. I really couldn't ask for more. Thanks for taking care of my dad.

Relative in for rehab. Was present at admission. Transport company took her to her room. Had to go to desk and ask owner why no one has been down to tell us about room, roommate, call light system, tv, bed. What the process was. Family had to go find someone. Family had to assist family into bed after being there an hour, still sitting in transport wheel chair. Then came every one. The nurse came in to do hi admission "head to toe" assessment, took a "do not remove unless saturated" dressing from incision looked at wound and that was a head to toe assessment. The bathroom has low toilet, vent was duct taped shut, couldnt get off toilet by herself and was left in there with door closed for 10 min or longer waiting for someone to help her off. Therapy said they would get a bedside commode to place over toilet to help her to be able to get up, but it never happened. She was encouraged to take pain meds before therapy, but never knew what time it was. Had to have cpm machine put on leg, at least three times a day, was lucky if it got put on once. Was informed by director that pt puts it on after therapy, but cannot wait for her to use the bathroom. She was on a water pill and had to go when she got back..... she never knew who nurse was, unless you rudely said excuse me, you were ignored at nurses station. The day nurse was rude and condenscending toward family member when we asked for something. Admit day a family member requested a pillow from him, she was told she needed to ask an aide he was a nurse, but was standing in front of laundry room door. Roommate would ask for a bedtime snack and was told kitchen was closed. Family member gave her hers that her family brought. Would love to see nurses notes and head to toe snf required assessments because no one looked at or placed stethoscope to her. Final straw was it took 1.5 hours to get a pain pill. She was told to turn her call light off, they know.

If I ever break a leg again, I will request Bellevue as my care takers. The staff was so caring and nice and the food was great! In fact, where is my breakfast in bed? The therapy group was outstanding. They took it slow and easy, but didn't let up! I have been in two different Specialty Hospitals and hands down, Bellevue was by far the best.

A careless jerk left my dad standing alone when he cant even walk. Of course dad fell and hit his head on a table and had to be taken to e r. Then the jerk had the nerve to get an attitude with us! They cram 2 people in a one person room w one t v and give out two remotes. We found medication on the floor. I wouldnt send a dog there and i will tell eveeyone what happened. Awfl awful place. Maybe they treat rich people differently. We took my dad out that day. It's all about money for them

Response: I agree it is all about money to these people. They are so nice and accommodating upon admission but when a problem arises they can't work fast enough on discharging. It is so hard to find anyone at their desk and the ones that are, are to busy on their cell phone. As a owner of a company, if im paying you to do a job for8 hours I wouldn't expect you to be on your cell phone. There is no organization or discipline at this facility. I would have expected a more caring and compassionate staff, seeing that im expecting you to take care of a loved one.

My mother was at Bellevue for almost a month for rehab after a fall.
In the last three years, she has been in five different facilities, including hospitals. I would rate Bellevue at the top of the list of the five places I have seen.
When she was transported to Bellevue, after several nights in the hospital, she could not walk. After three weeks of physical therapy at Bellevue, she was back on her feet.
No place is perfect, and I'm sure Bellevue constantly has to deal with internal problems, but from my experience, the management REALLY cares. I never had a problem, but when I had a question, or needed extra support, I got REAL help!

I've had 3 elderly persons cared for at Bellvue, and couldn't be more thrilled with their care. The staff is compassionate and caring. My step-mother, father and mother-in-law were residents here. Care for your loved ones at the finest level!!!

02/27/2012  -  An OurParents User Writes:

Evening Shift during the week and all weekend shift Employees spend more time visiting w/each other and playing on Cell Phones then checking on Patients. Compromised, total care Patients go hours without being seen or checked for incontinence. The Facility is Great for Therapy from 7-3 Monday-Friday but would strongly suggest hiring private care for Evening hours and all weekends when Family is not visiting. Amazing to see how environment changes drastically when Office closes and family that runs facility heads home.

Response: I've had 3 relatives at this facility, and have never noticed any problems such as this. They brought coffee, cokes, juice or anything we wanted without asking. I couldn't recommend a better home for your loved ones.

Response: I have found this to be true as well.

Response: I wrote the above comment. I mean I have found it to be true about the lesser quality care in the evenings and on weekends. Lots of staff sitting around visiting with each other.

Response: I noticed an extreme drop in the quality of care on the weekends as well. My mother is now in ICU due to being diagnosed with double pneumonia, severe dehydration, and malnutrition after 8 weeks of skilled nursing care at Bellevue. I found my mother sitting soaked in her own urine on every visit even after 5 phone calls to administration and 4 face to face visits with management. I will never entrust any loved one to this facility again.

Being from Chicago we are known for telling it like it is. Theres an old saying, "no one takes better care of your loved one than you", well Bellevue proved that statement incorrect. They took awesome care of my mother while she was there for respite, which allowed me to go on vacation in Mexico without worries. I currently have my mother at home living with me, however, when it gets to the point of needed 24 hour medical care, you can bet your last dollar she will be going to Bellevue.

Response: I couldn't agree more. I'm friends with the wonderful people who own Bellevue, and they're just as caring for your loved ones as well as their neighbors and friends.

10/27/2011  -  An OurParents User Writes:

We admitted my mother to Bellevue Nursing Center after her surgery so that she could receive physical rehabilitation. The care could not have been better! My mother was greeted at the door and escorted to her room by one of the administrative staff. Her room was spacious and clean. She was introduced immediately to her nursing staff and a member of the kitchen came by and spoke with my mother regarding her dietary preferences. They even cooked my very picky mother alternative meals when she wanted them. I found this nursing home to be far superior to any of the others I've seen. I will not hesitate to use this facility again if we need it. I also recommend this facility to anyone I know who might need to place their loved one in a nursing home. I never had a moment of worry with the Bellevue staff looking after my mom. Thank you Bellevue for all you do!!!

I am an employee for Bellevue. I have worked in other nursing homes and hospitals and by far Bellevue is number 1. The staff and I mean all staff from house keepers to the DON care about our pt's. We might not be perfect but we all go that exta mile for each and everyone of our residents. Never in my life have I worked along the side of such amazing caretakers. Every worker I have work with has amazing bed side manner and would do anything in the world to put a smile on a residents face. Trust me even when no one is watching the staff is giving amazing care! Bellevue is a wonderfull place to work and a wonderfull place to be:)

AFTER MY MOTHER FELL AND BROKE HER TAILBONE AND SPENDING 10 DAYS ON THE HOSPITAL , SHE WAS RELEASED AND SENT TO SKILLED NURSING FOR REHAB. WE WENT TO THE FOUNTAINS OF CANTERBURY 1ST (OUR FIRST NIGHTMARE) FOR ABOUT A WEEK. SEEKING BETTER CARE, WE MOVED TO BELLEVUE.(NIGHTMARE NO. 2)----- ONLY TO FIND OUT WE WERE MOVING FROM THE POT TO THE FRYING PAN. I THINK WALMART EMPLOYEES ARE BETTER QUALIFIED TO CARE FOR PATIENTS THAN THE PEOPLE AT BELLEVUE. THEY WERE SO INEXPERIENCED. WHEN MY MOM MOVED INTO HER TINY TINY CORNER OF A SEMI PRIVATE ROOM, THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS FECES SMEARED ON THE WALL. (CONFIRMED BY A NURSE ON DUTY.) WHILE SHE WAS THERE SHE GOT PNEUMONIA AND A VERY BAD URINARY INFECTION. SHE CONTINUOSLY HAD BAD BRUISES ON HER ARMS, BACK, SHOULDERS, TORSO AND LEGS AND TERRIBLE SKIN TEARS THAT REQUIRED CONSTANT BANDAGEING FROM THE ROUGH HANDLEING SHE RECEIVED FROM THE STAFF. SHE AND SEVERAL OTHER PATIENTS BEGAN VOMITING AND HAVING VIOLENT DIAREAH WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF EACH OTHER.. 2 OF THE AIDS AND AN RN ON DUTY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO ISOLATE MY MOM AND A FEW OTHERS FOR FEAR THEY HAD CONTRACTED "C-DIFF" ( A VERY CONTAGEOUS BACTERIAL DISEASE AND INFECTION OF THE BOWLS AND INTESTINES.). AFTER HAVING BEEN EXPOSED AND HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL TO BE CHECKED AND TESTED POSSITIVE FOR THE DISEASE.. WHEN RETURNING TO THE FACILITY AND SPEAKING TO A MEMBER OF MANAGEMENT, ABOUT HAVING CAUGHT IT , SHE DENIED THERE EVER BEING A PROBLEM AND THE PEOPLE TESTED ALL CAME BACK NEGATIVE.. REALLY?? NICE WAY OF COVERING UP!!!THAT IS THE ONLY PLACE I COULDVE CAUGHT IT.
THEN ONE DAY I CAME TO VISIT AND NO ONE SEEMED TO KNOW WHERE MY MOM WAS, ANDWHY SHE WASNT IN HER ROOM.. AFTER CHECKING 3 DIFFERENT AREAS THEY THOUGHT SHE MIGHT BE, BUT WASNT, I WENT TO THE ACTIVITY ROOM WHERE THEY HOLD A CHURCH SERVICE. TO MY SUPRISE, I FOUND MY MOM SLUMPED OVER IN A WHEELCHAIR, HAVING A FULL BLOWN SEIZURE AND CONVULSIONS. THERE WERE 2 NORMAL MIDDLE AGED ADULTS WALKING AROUND THE ROOM, SUPPOSEDLY LOOKING AFTER ABOUT 15 OTHER RESIDENTS, ALSO IN WHEELCHAIRS. THEY NEVER EVEN NOTICED MY MOM, VIOLENTLY JERKING BACK AND FORTH OUT OF CONTROL.. WHEN CONFRONTED THEY SAID THEY THOUGHT SHE WAS ASLEEP..!!! I YELLED FOR HELP AND SHE WAS WHEELED INTO THE HALLWAY AND YANKED OUT OF HER WHEELCHAIR TO LAY HER ON HER BACK.. IN THE PROCESS THEY PEELED THE SKIN BACK AND AWAY FROM HER ENTIRE FOREARM , CAUSING SEVERE BLEEDING.. PARAMEDICS CAME AND TOOK HER TO THE ER , WHEN THEY CHECKED HER BLOOD SUGAR , IT WAS 19.. THE WHOLE TIME SHE HAD BEEN AT BELLEVUE, NOONE EVER CHECKED HER BLOOD SUGAR , EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ADMINISTERING MEDICATION FOR DIABETES...
SAVE A LIFE --- DONT LEAVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER AT THIS PLACE... YOU WILL BE SORRY...

Response: Sorry you had a bad experience here. My dad, step-mother and mother-in-law were cared for in the most compassionate, professional manner possible.

Response: We had the same experience there. It was horrible and now my dad has a cut on his temple from falling. Then we found pills on the floor! I will tell everyone about how bad this place ia. Maybe it's different if you're rich.

I recently had the decision to pick a rehab unit for my father. I got and did some research on the internet through the medicare.gov/nursing home compare. I had been leery of nursing homes prior to his hospitalization. Imagine my surprise to find that there are nursing homes out there that actually do care and try hard to do the right thing. I won't say that the staff was always perfect but I will give them 5 stars for trying. Thanks to rehab my dad is actually going to leave and go home better and stronger than before he got sick. Thanks guys!

My grandfather entered this facility due to a broken leg. He needed help getting up and around. They left him in bed and rarely moved him. He has never had health issues. He entered their facility with a broken leg and he died 4 weeks later due to acute phenmonia. Do not place your family member in this facility. Their staff is not trained properly and are not kind to the patients. It is poorly managed and we wish we would have placed my papa someplace else.

05/17/2010  -  An OurParents User Writes:

I am in the health care business which may make my review more technical than others. Recently my dad stayed at Bellevue for rehab care. During that time I experienced and learned a number of things about Bellevue that I want to take the time to share...

    1. The majority of employees have been working there for 5 or more years. Dozens of them for 20+ years. One for 40 years. That is unheard of at the typical nursing home and indicates something special about management and the way they take care of staff as well as patients / residents.

    2. The same family has operated Bellevue since the 1950's and many of the people working on-site are family members.

    3. A friend tried to apply for a nurse aide position at Bellevue and discovered there were no openings. In fact, an aide working there told me there was a wait list of people wanting to come work at Bellevue. That is amazing.

    4. Most importantly, the attention, service, and care my dad received was 5 star. Staff and management frequently took the time to personally check on his progress and satisfaction. His requests and needs were timely responded to with professionalism and friendliness.

    5. I observed and experienced management's and staff's compassion, empathy, and dedication to taking care of people. My family left with heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the personal and top-notch service we received.

I recommend Bellevue very highly and will choose it again if we need additional skilled nursing or rehab services.

I currently have a relative in this facility for short term rehabilitation following back surgery. His care has been less than adequate. His urinals are full and not cleaned emptied on a regular basis. His blood pressure dropped to such a drastic degree after being pain medicated, that he had to be transported by ambulance to emergency room at hospital. It was also determined at hospital that he was severely dehydrated and in need of fluids. He does not have ice and water regularly available or other liquids which would address fluid/electrolyte issues. Not a good facility. When we addressed these issues with management we were told " they were busy". Nurses do not come into room on regular basis to check on comfort and welfare of patient. Although listed as medicare approved physical rehabilitation facility, physical rehab is only done four full days a week. The only doctor on staff stops by once a week to check on charts and welfare of many patients. I am currently in contact with oversight and watchdog groups regarding this facility.
