If the time has come to place a loved one in a skilled nursing facility and you live in Northeast PA, Dunmore Health Care Center may be on the list of nursing homes that you're researching. I'm here to provide, what I hope is, helpful insight.
In terms of resident care, ours receive the best. Our nurses and nurses' aides are compassionate and thorough; we see each resident as being part of our family. When families aren't present we become their support systems, aid them with daily care, dispense medications, communicate with doctors and monitor their overall condition. You'd be hard pressed to find a more dedicated team in a long term care facility.
Where our problem lies however is within management. As a for-profit company the eye is always on the bottom line; it should be looking elsewhere as the care of those who can't care for themselves is in our hands. Without proper and adequate supplies the residents are unable to receive proper or adequate care.
As a "just for example": the word "budget" is thrown around at least a dozen times each day. Incontinence is a common issue among the elderly and briefs and/or pull-ups are a necessity. Saber Health Care, the owner of DHCC, doesn't see it that way. Every other day, sometimes every third, incontinence items are stocked in each room, 8-10 briefs and/or pull-ups in that resident's size. If Mom, Dad, Grandma, or Grandpa go through those supplies faster than what is deemed "correct", that's just too bad. There have been times when we've had NO briefs in the building and when someone expresses concern that answers are always the same, "Why?" .. "The shipment will be here tomorrow." .. "You're going to have to find another solution".
Look elsewhere. Please.
