I have thoroughly enjoyed having my mother in this facility. They once had a terrible busines manager on staff while the owner was out for knee replacements, but the care of the residents has always been impeccable. The staff of the facility are awesome and I feel blessed to have this care facility for my mom. Long's is a blessing and an answer to prayers.

    Regarding: Dwayne - Business Manager needs to be FIRED!

    A service is best judged, not when everything is great, but rather how management timely and effectively resolves and follows up with said parties regarding issues, concerns or complaints. Long's Residential Care is located in Saluda, SC. This business is managed by an elusive character named Dwayne who refuses to do the following when asked, and seems to be challenged how to deal with everyday business transactions as follows:

    1. When there is a Problem or Concern, HAS NOT RETURNED over 7 of my calls during a 2 month period. Instructed staff not to return my calls and I was told I could only call his Cell phone number of which he never returned any calls this way either.

    2. Forged ahead and moved my mom into another room without talking with me or my sister . We are both P.O.A. for my mom. This is a violation.

    3. Totally dropped the ball with setting up my mom's rent to be drafted out of her checking account. Note: My sister who is now in Hospital, had made it clear to me that she had previously talked with him several times about this and that it was in process, therefore, I had NO knowledge of the past due balance. When my sister was put in Hospital, I did inform L.R.C, that I would be taking over the bill paying etc. and had assumed that Dwayne had done what my sister had asked him to do. However, I was finally informed by Debbie-Nurse, that somehow it was not done and Dwayne, the business manager did not seem to understand how to do this?? Oh my lord! I asked 1 more time to please fix the problem because it would be more convenient for me. However, due to other misleading info I was getting from them, and/or lack of information, I decided to hand deliver a check to cover the past due balance. When I went in to work on Monday, Dwayne had faxed a letter that was highly confidential and of a sensitive nature to me at my place of business. I had NEVER given my authorization for such and NEVER received it by mail, of which I found weeks later someone did not take the time to write my complete address when I had clearly repeated it 2 times! Yes, this is another HIPPA violation.

    3. My mother's chronic back pain problems that she has had ALL HER LIFE, is not being addressed at all. I have left over 4 messages for the Nurse Practitioner?? I know my mom and she complains ALL the time about her pain, although I am being told on the phone that she does not. This is definitely an issue when facility is not addressing pain issues and Dr., etc. WON'T return P.O.A. calls

    4. My mom has been begging for Physical Therapy for many, many months, but I had been told she was not getting any because she would not sign any contracts?? I am just wondering, why it takes me to call them, like I did recently to tell them to send paperwork to me so I could sign contract as her P.O.A.? Never once did anyone mention this to me.

    5. As P.O.A., I requested list of her meds and for the business office to finally tell me after my leaving messages and writing to Dwayne regarding whether or not he had done what my sister had asked prior to her hospitalization - to put my Mom on Medicare Part D.

    6. My mother has informed me and a staff member there confirmed that Dwayne has a habit of kidding my mom and "some of the residents" about sending them to "Columbia" or "Bull Street". Anyone with any compassion or social services background, would never even elude to such things because the elderly are already scared of being placed there and of change. This is another violation.

    So, I how do I rate this place? After dealing with the type problems I have detailed above....How would YOU rate them? Yes, I am in the process of doing something about these matters myself. One thing for sure, Dwayne DOES NOT need to be Business Manager of an Ant Colony much less of a Assisted Living facility. He needs to be FIRED and replaced with someone who has people skills, compassion for elderly, and understands basic business transactions.

    Response: Im not surprised by this review. I had hard time getting answers to my questions as well and ignored most of time, which makes my family very angry. I never was sure if messages was given to right person or just thrown away I got no calls back. And no manager works on weekend, so forget that. I not sure why one of review websites shows that Longs lisense expired on May 31,2010. Do they have a lisense now?

    Response: Why is this website reporting incorrect information? Longs Residential Care facility is an Assisted Living Facility NOT a Nursing Home like it is listed. Who is reporting such misfacts?

    Response: Dwayne Edwards was removed by the very competent owner of the facility for exactly these type issues. Long's has been a very wonderful facility serving the community for a long time. I believe a review of the current staff and business practices would show that all of the management issues that occurred under the management of Mr Edwards have since been resolved.

    Response: Also, Long's is an assisted living facility not a nursing facility and has been licensed without issue since 1992.
