10/03/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: The Plaza at Edgemere has lovely facilities and friendly admissions staff. The skilled nursing floor where my parent has been since late spring of 2013 is poorly managed and the Plaza currently has no head administrator and the director of nursing has only been there about two months. The majority of the CNAs speak little English making them defensive when the residents try to communicate with them and generally they are not caring people and try to rush through their tasks so they can get back to chatting with each other. The heads of all areas of care are competent, caring people and some of the RNs are wonderful, but it is difficult to provide good care when most of the CNA staff they heavily rely on are not caring people and cannot communicate with the residents. It is a shame that Edgemere can have such a wonderful independent living community and such a mediocre skilled and assisted living facility.

08/20/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: staff was unpleasant and passive aggressive the two years the family member was there

04/23/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: The first time our mother checked into the Plaza, while recovering from colitis... the staff failed to give her the call bottom... So, she was left stranded during the night without the assistance she needed to use the toilet... She needed to return to the hospital the next day...
The second time she checked into the Plaza, we were met with indifference at the front lobby... next encountered was construction in one elevator, which emitted toxic fumes into the nursing care third floor level.... Then the room she was given had a bathroom reeking of mold... Next, after changing rooms ... an attended delivered her dinner and grabbed hold of our mother to move her in bed... Unasked... causing pain and having no idea of our mothers impaired shoulder... Next, a nurse... if she actually was a nurse... came in after dinner and insisted against our mother express objection to pull off a clean, fresh bandage on our mother's neck... causing a great deal of pain... This was done with no reason or cause to do so... When I then went to look for the supervisor I was told there was none... and when I ask for who was in charge of this floor... I was told that no one was...and that this was just the way they did things here... and that if someone did not like it they could go to another place... It is obvious to me that there is a fundamental failure from the management level on down in this facility... Tomorrow I am contacting the Texas Depatment of Public Health and filing a complaint... Tomorrow I am finding the senior manager of this facility and filing a complaint... Tomorrow I am contacting the management of the Edgemere who owns the Plaza and finding out who is responsible and taking this whole organization to task... Our mother is a resident at the Edgemere... and who would have thought, that the Plaza would be such a failure... when the Edgemere is not...

04/21/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: My mom is currently at the Plaza and it's horrendous. The place is filthy,Administrator is never there, and he is combative as was previously mentioned. Administration simply does not care about clients, period. They've coasted on their fancy reputation for too long and it is catching up with them FAST.Memory Care Area is AWFUL--dirty, depressing, smelly. Do not consider this place.

Response: Thank you for taking the time to review the Edgemere. IF money were no object, I would have probably considered this place. I assumed this place was one of the BEST in Dallas!

09/27/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: The Plaza has done a nose dive in quality since my mom moved there, and she has been there three years. The current Administrator is seldom there and it shows. I would move my mom if I could. Look elsewhere as this place is filthy and the staff--except for a few--are lazy and can't be bothered.

10/18/2010 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Nursing staff forgot for three months to give an imparitative medication to my parent who resides there. This set back their recovery IMMENSLY. The department heads & staff seem combative and resistant to my constructive criticism. DO NOT be fooled by the nice decor...
would not recomend this palce for your loved ones!
And and they are"sooo nice when you go check them out...
