    Response: I have toured the facility and was impressed at first; however, things deteriorated rapidly. I attempted to get a friend into the facility and was met with rudeness from the admission coordinator. It is very clear that the families have to do all the work to get someone into the facility. If they do anything they are quick to tell you they bend over backwards to help and that anything further is your responsibility. The lack of customer service is unbelievable. I called the corporate office about how they spoke to me and after he spoke with them, I received a call to apologize. What a joke! They called another facility where my family member is and discussed my call to oakmont's corporate office. I can only assume it was done with malicious intent. As to why it was done I do not know. In my opinion it makes Oakmont look bad to another company. It demonstrates a lack of professionalism and has caused a multitude of problems as a result. I would not recommend this facility toanyone.

    09/10/2013 An Interested Visitor Writes: The Admin & Dir made lots of promises that most of the staff cannot or will not carry out. The residents are often treated like objects. Residents' glasses, hearing aids and teeth are misplaced,tossed out, missing... Management takes NO responsibilty. CNAs dress residents in clearly labeled clothing of other residents. Personal items like razors, shampoo, tooth paste wander from room to room. Several times X got food they should not have due to dietary restrictions. I know this happens in many places. But we have had enough.

    Response: This facility needs to be closed but it will take the family members reporting unsafe situations or substandard care. Many of those in management out (not all) are rude, untruthful and truly do not care. Call the state and report your observations. Be factual but detailed in your report. They will investigate the issues. Unfortunately, the public will not know what sanctions or penalties are imposed.

    08/09/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: After reading a few reviews I found myself saying yes yes yes. That either happened to us, saw it happen to others (sometimes repeatily) or both. The scariest is falls lots of falls. Many right in front of staff who are chatting horse playing or TEXTing. The next is medicine errors. Enough said. There are a handful of staff members doing a great job & trying to make up fot many selfish uncaring staff. Bless those who work so hard and care so much.

    07/13/2013 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: They are always understaffed.They cannot provide good care My mom called me at home in the middle of the night saying that no one would answer her call light.It had been on for almost an hour.I had to call the nursing station.I have come in on the night shift to find the staff asleep in chairs in the hallway.The nurses on day shift are so overwhelmed!

    11/21/2012 An OurParents User Writes: Oakmont Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center of Katy is an average sized, for profit, nursing home with 130 beds based in Katy, TX. At last check, the facility had 118 residents indicating that it is 91% occupied which is more than average within the state of Texas. The provider accepts both medicare and medicaid programs, and provides resident and family counseling services.

    11/07/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: I believe that the facility is trying to make needed changes and turnover has been high however some of those changes were long overdue. The staff for the most part wants to do the right thing but needs more direction. I can understand and appreciate those who have had bad experiences but whenever I go to management the issues I have were resolved. It saddens to think that we can use social media to attack people blindly because a lot of the staff there are kind compassionate and caring people from management all the way down. I guess in every situation there's two sides to the story. We as families aren't always easy to deal with because of our situations. I have been on both sides of the situation as a family and a nurse caring for my own family. I guess I just believe there's only one judge for us all. God bless and I hope that things continue to change because what I have seen so far makes me grateful that nurses do what they do for their patients. Being one myself I can say it is a thankless job most of the time and the negativity on sites like this proves my point.

    07/04/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: My parent was there for less than a couple of months the nursing staff was average made sure my parent was taken care of. Therapy was ok, the girl who helps with discharge was never there and when she was rude. Overall stay was adequate have seen worse.

    06/28/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Honestly was a great place with friendly highly motivated staff...dont know what happened, more employees observed with don't care attitudes, feelings of ungratefulnesd to the powers that be, blame being placed instead of changes being made and all Involved taking accountability...I am highly Involved in my parent care...which makes some staff feel I am bugging them for petty things, but if it were your parent would u not care if they were assisted like they needed to regardless of what is going on, excuesses are not acceptable, getting the job done is...I don't blame the direct care staff, I put blame on management...I show the staff that they are appreciated for what they do and that has gotten me further then the management staff...will it be like it once was? I don't know, do I c changes? No, will the new administrator do better then the last? That is up in the air, she us still fairly new...I have overheard that she doesnt speak to her staff members, maybe except those she smokes with, even heard a physician say that...leads me to think...Why is she there....Is the D.O.N. worthy of that posistion...staff express displeasure with her, as a nurse myself I wonder if its cause she expects much from them or now that the roof is coming off due to the most recent survey, she is trying to mask herself and find elsewhere to place blame...guess time will parent will not be there for that to unfold though, searching places now

    06/15/2012 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: My mom, who has Alzheimers has been at Oakmont since April 2011. I was very pleased with the facility until about January, 2012 and thing started going downhill and haven't improved since. I've been up there to talk to the "powers-that-be", but to no avail. My mother's meds are not given correctly and I know because the orders come to me. Barbara on the West Wing was an awesome night nurse, but after she left, things seemed to go south. Ken Watson, the administrator, is now gone as well as quite a number of other employees. It's sad when you develop relationships with the employees and the next thing you know they are gone. Nurses aren't very helpful, friendly or caring. I put my mom here because it was so highly rated by DADS, but not any more. Their last inspection was appalling. Thinking about moving her soon.

Yesterday, I heard 3-4 staff standing outside my mother's door talking about a resident who had passed away. The comment was, "she had started turning blue when they found her". How inappropriate! My mother requested to have her diaper changed and the CNA said "well let me check, they said they changed her before they left" referring to the staff who had left. I said, I've been with her since right after lunch and I know she has not been changed. No, I'm sorry, just the usual nasty attitude. My mother chair was deliberately broken by someone at that facility in October 2011 and she still does not have another chair. The one they "gave" her is too small and uncomfortable for her. I've had it, now I'm going to get a lawyer, after I make a formal report with the state.

    11/03/2011 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: Reading other peoples experiances has given me the courage to tell mine.A few years ago my aunt lived at this home.She broke her hip and the nurse took nearly an hour before she called the dr.She became furious, and was slamming charts on her desk.She said my aunt broke her hip out of spite,so that the nurse would have more paperwork to do. I still cringe when I think of my aunt having to go through this.Out of curiousity I went to visit one weekend ,and the same nurse is there.

    Response: I'm looking for a place for my mom right now, she had a hip replacement twice because of the place i had her in where she lived, now i'm wanting to place her closer to me i prefer katy or at least close to it, you said you were moving your mother have you found a good place yet. Please let me know it is really hard trying to find one you can trust

    10/27/2011 An Family Member of Current/Past Resident Writes: The social worker was so negative and unprofessional toward my mother. It is as if she has never dealt with stroke patients before. The CNAs and lead nurses also expressed so much negativity that I'm actively looking for another place, as I'm afraid for her safety. My mother's personal items come up missing and all the staff can say is write her name on it. I've been told that the administrator will soon discharge her since I've started complaining about her care. The staff lies and say they showered her when they didn't. They don't care if she is dirty and hair uncombed all day. I made a mistake placing her there. If this one has the high ratings posted, I'm stuck!
