I requested specific services be performed by Angels for Elders following my mother's hospitalization. These services were to assist my mother in recuperating from a hospital stay relating to her congestive heart failure. These services were not performed, nor were the in-home staff of Angels for Elders properly supervised to insure such services were being rendered, thereby placing my Mother's health at risk. Unfortunately, I did not find out about the failure of services and lack of supervision until day 5 of my engagement of Angels for Elders (both of my parents have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and were unable to adequately communicate with me what was or was not happening in their home). When I did find out, I first spoke with the owner, Karen Rust, who did nothing. I then repeatedly wrote and spoke with the supervisor, Christie Castro, about the lack of work and supervision. I did this for over 7 months, with her only response being "I'll get back with you", and then finally admitting in December that the caregivers had not done the work/services they were supposed to do. After that admission, I never received another bill or communication about payment relating to these services. In the meantime, a check that I wrote to Angels for Elders for driving my parents to doctors' appointments was lost in the mail (this driver was known and trusted by my parents and myself). I told Angels that I would write another check. I was told by Ms. Castro and the accounting person for Angels that if the first check was ever received, it would be voided and returned to me. As such, I never issued a stop payment order on the check, believing Angels for Elders to be truthful about the first check. The first check was apparently recently found (March 2012), and rather than returning the check to me as promised, or even calling me to say the check had been received/located, Angels for Elders cashed it. After I saw the check had been cashed, I immediately called Ms. Rust for an explanation. Her response, and I quote, was: "Our service agreement, nor we verbally, offer a customer satisfaction guaranty refund, like Walmart. For example, if you provide legal services for a client who then decides it “was not worth it”, you still expect them to pay your bill. I guess it’s called contract law. " So, this greedy and arrogant owner is telling her current and future clients that she doesn't care about the quality of care provided by her in-home care givers, nor does she even care if the services were provided. All she cares is about is money.
Angels for Elders are not only horrible in-home care givers, with such care givers being unsupervised, the company and its owner are liars, unethical and totally unprofessional. The company's and Ms. Rust's actions were so egregious, I have filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. You would be doing your elder parent or loved one a great disservice by hiring Angels for Elders.

Angels for Elders has been in business for over 13 years and has provided high quality care for thousands of clients. Notes of appreciation and praise are received each month from our many satisfied clients, along with their invoice payment. We have provided dependable care and transportation to and from appointments and on errands allowing our clients to maintain their independence. We have never and would never bill clients for services or employee hours not worked. This one dissatisfied customer has self exposed their attitude to refuse to pay their bill. They used our agency's services from Feb. 2011 through Dec 2011 and are refusing to pay for 5 days of services in May. Full information has been provided of the caregivers' services in accordance with their request. They have elected to use an unregulated public forum to make unfounded accusations against our owner, our office staff and our employees. The check in dispute was applied to the client’s account to partially cover their outstanding balance. Their remaining balance has been written off as a courtesy.
