Depressing environment. Poor medical care by doctor. Nurses do fair job but dr runs the show. Mother almost died at this facility from not eating and undiagnosed pneumonia and UTI(family pushed for chest exray and dr finally ordered it.) Parent told to use Depends for bathroom when too busy to assist in bathroom or change her. Two weeks with no handicap toilet seat. A mobile assisted living person entered Iliff and became a bedridden person. Dr's attitude is that this is the "new baseline" for parent. Finally got out of Iliff. New rehab sent parent to hospital and drs found UTI superbug making parent deathly ill. Recoving now at new rehab and able to start walking again.

Well, i guess every one must have an opinion, and the ones below are generally the only things every to come out of a nursing and rehab center.

I, for one, had a very positive time. I had elective knew surgery, was there for about two weeks, and had great help. Everyone was responsive, nice, and full of knowledge. It made my transition home easier, and gave me some tips to keep my knee healthy.

A horrible experience for my mother and her roommate, both in for rehab. The management are not responsive, and clearly not managing well, and the quality of nursing staff/care was inconsistent.
TVs blare all night & day keeping residents awake, mgt. say they don't have authority to do anything. Staff very rarely respond to call button at night.
My mother was chastised and made fun of for calling for help going to the bathroom 4 times one night (due to medication,) then chastised & humiliated the next day for having wet the obligatory diaper because she was afraid to call for help.
No general information is provided when residents check in about the daily process, schedules, responsible management to contact, etc. The number given to call to request alternate meals doesn't work and no one was ever able to provide the correct one. The promised menu for selecting meal choices never appeared, even after several inquiries.
There are no grab bars in the bathroom, accessing the flush handle is difficult, and the side railings are full of pee bottles & bed pans. Rooms have a single wall unit AC/heater that is next to one resident's bed, who controls it. One resident is cold, the other hot. Wheelchairs in short supply and not available for use. Told mother had been evaluated for OT, but hadn't been. One entrance patio occupied by smokers, so not available for non-smokers.
It seemed apparent that their intention is to keep rehab patients for as long as possible...$$$. I found later the facility and its doctor are known among doctor's offices and home nursing companies as poor performers who are difficult to work with.
Many of the nursing staff were very kind & attentive, and facility cleanliness generally was very good, but overall an unpleasant, poorly managed place. How they win awards is beyond me --standards must be very low indeed.

Just spent some time here after heart surgery, needed some physical therapy. Staff was great, therapist was great, and all was easy to talk to and very helpful. The rehab wing is also newly renovated with new rooms.

this place is a hidden gem. it's a small center and everyone gets to know your name and provide a very inviting and personal environment. my wife's knee operation and rehab went without a hiccup, and we were out and back home in two weeks. i would recommend this place to everyone.

I owe this place BIG time for arranging a room for me. My time here at Iliff has always been rewarding, and I've been back here for therapy after surgery at least 4 times. I told my case mgr at the hospital that if I can't go the Iliff, I will not stay anywhere else and will go back home. This place is the BEST.

My father was recently here after surgery, and I could not disagree more with the comments below. I think families come in and expect a hotel, but that is not what the center is for--it is for nursing care and physical/occupational therapy services. The building is dated, but the rooms in the rehab are newly renovated, clean, and appeasing. We never had problems with any nurses, and, in fact, it was a pleasure to see full-time nurses working there because my father had the same nurse almost every single day, and they were able to form a good relationship with each other. The therapy staff was excellent. Was the first couple of days rough? Absolutely. But that is what communication is about--once I relayed to the staff what my concerns were, they were able to answer my questions, show me a good daily routine of what to expect, and gave me peace of mind.
Finally, as my father said: "I should have come here for my other knee (replacement). This place is great. If I had a third knee, I'd come back."

The nursing staff does as little as possible to the
point of ignoring the patients that they don't like
or who require more care than they are willing to give.

I can't express enough my disappointment with this facility. The building itself is older and not at all fancy but that wouldn't have bothered me had they taken good care of my father. The staff was friendly but sadly neglectful. They left him sitting in his own fecal matter for hours and when asked, refused to clean him. It was always someone else's job. Several times while I was with him a member of the staff would come in to give him his medication, but no one could tell me what the medication was or what the dosage was. Each time I made them go back and find out before I would permit administration. There were several occasions where two different individuals would come with the same medication. Once, a nurse came in with an open, unlabeled syringe. I made her go back and get a sealed syringe and the vial she was drawing from before I'd let her give him the injection. While in the facility, my father developed bedsores and a VRE UTI which he was diagnosed with after he was taken Fairfax Hospital at my request. The staff tried to prevent us from leaving. The rooms were dirty, there were random pills lying in the hall and they permit the patients to smoke at the front door. All that being said, the physical therapist was delightful and there was a very caring night nurse that I dealt with, but other than that it was a total nightmare. My heart goes out to the other residents.

07/31/2012  -  An OurParents User Writes:

The physical therapy staff was kind and professional. The nursing/assistant staff was not responsive to calls for assistance. The doctor never visited. My Father frequently spiked fevers that no one would have noticed had we not brought it to their attention. We always had to go get them again to recheck the temperature. They told us he had fevers because the room was warm. We were with my Father the majority of the time. I can't imagine what kind of care he would have received if we weren't continually pursuing the staff to give him the basic care he needed. Do not bring your family member here. For outpatient physical therapy, if they offer such a thing, it would be great!

This facility almost killed my father, who was there for rehab, couldn’t get him out fast enough. When someone is not able to eat or drink on their own seems to me they should be in contact with a qualified physician

This place is a dump!!! If you love the person that has to be in this type of facility don't bring them here. The TV's don't work I don't know if it is lack of cable or the old crap donated with out converter boxes. What is the point of TV if you can't watch a nice show? Bathroom's are shared by multiple residents. We never got a welcome book. No one who works there cares. My father was washing his clothes in the sink. The place had a terrible odor. It is very sad that a place like this is in business..that's all it is to the staff...a pay check...money. I am sick!
