My mother has lived at Covenant Woods for over 10 years. The monthly fee is $1,000 more than it was 10 years ago. The financial increase to the existing residents is spent on marketing for new residents. There is no consideration of the desires of current residents. The food is poor and residents are disrupted by construction noise and mess. The management does not consider the requests of the current residents. All energy is focused on promoting the CCR for potential buyers.

Over all the facilities are well maintained, the staff is mostly friendly and the nursing care is very good. However responses to problems are met with stone walls and a resistance to change and there are hard to resolve issues that shouldn't exist in the first place. (like theft of personal items) The food in the nursing unit is extremely poor and the corporation that provides food service to Covenant Woods is totally unresponsive to numerous and frequent complaints.
If my mother weren't 89 I would prefer to move her to another facility tomorrow.
Bottom line, if you are mobile and active and live in independent living you'll probably love it here, otherwise I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Betty and I have had an apartment at Covenant Woods for 3 years where we can live independently and when needed, physical therapy health care, assisted living and nursing care all under “the same roof”. Our home port remains in Port Haywood until physical and health status of one or the other favors otherwise. A gradual transition is envisioned. We are frequently in and out of Richmond for various reasons. A week or two there is restful, convenient. Covenant Woods in Hanover County is ten miles from MCV where we get our specialty health care, air port and the Unitarian Church where we have been members for over forty years and have long time friends. It is easy to make new friends at CW a friendly, active , really caring resident community. All the shops you need are near by yet the setting is rural. Betty enjoys her vegetable and fruit garden in the park like section. I am writing our family history for the grand children. We are excited about the plans for the 3rd addition AND RECEIVE UPDATES EVERY TUESDAY MORNING AT COFFEE TIME.

Description of Covenant Woods in MECHANICSVILLE, VA

    Built In 1883 , Number of Beds : 43

Covenant Woods concentrates on providing the right care and support to seniors in Mechanicsville, VA. This community offers comfort to each resident by providing quality assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing and continuing care services. Assisted living is a care type that offers the same potential for excitement and opportunities as independent living, but always with an extra layer of security and help. Why choose assisted living? Studies reveal that living near peers and participating in social activities leads to a more fulfilling life. With assisted living, you'll find senior-friendly living options and a dedicated staff. Communities have additional services that include 24-hour supervision and security, emergency response systems, access to licensed nursing care, chef-prepared meals, and assistance with grooming, dressing, and bathing. Housekeeping, laundry, social programs, and local transportation are usually provided, too. This community, a comprehensive independent living community, allows you to do as you wish, when you wish, but without the burdens of home ownership that can tie you down and take up your time. Serving both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as senior apartments, retirement villages, and communities for 55 and older. Residents stay in private apartments or individual homes with a variety of community amenities, services, and programs tailored specifically for seniors. Your personal belongings, such as furniture and favorite mementos, can move to your new home with you. With maintenance, groundskeeping, and housekeeping taken care of, seniors can focus on goals and passions instead of the daily demands of home ownership. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. Community services and amenities usually include fitness clubs, dining facilities, swimming pools, golf courses, hiking trails, social events, and more. A senior living in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) will find the aging process to be easier and perhaps even one of the most enjoyable parts of a life well lived! The reason for this that a CCRC offers a tiered approach to growing older. Healthy adults can begin with living independently in single-family homes or apartments, but if assistance with everyday activity becomes necessary, they can transition directly into assisted living or nursing care facilities by prior arrangement. Covenant Woods provides a low-maintenance lifestyle and the assistance seniors need to enjoy retirement. In this community, assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing and continuing care services are provided. An assisted living community provides help when necessary with the goal of supplying the services required to stay as autonomous as possible. With independent living, you can do as you wish, when you wish, but without the burdens of home ownership that can take up your time. Continuing retirement care is dedicated to making the phases of the aging process as smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible. It achieves this through offering long-term, comprehensive assistance, from independent living to assisted living to skilled nursing care.
