You just couldn't ask for a more caring staff! I do not live in Newport News and can't care for my dad myself so this is far and away the best option. Of course it's not 100% perfect but the concern I see for all residents gives me great peace of mind!

Description of The Chesapeake in Newport News, VA

Number of Beds : 52

Assisted living is a good solution for seniors who require a little help but desire to preserve their self-reliance. Why choose assisted living? Studies reveal that living near peers and participating in social activities leads to a more fulfilling life. With assisted living, you'll find senior-friendly living options and a dedicated staff. Communities have additional services that include 24-hour supervision and security, emergency response systems, access to licensed nursing care, chef-prepared meals, and assistance with grooming, dressing, and bathing. Housekeeping, laundry, social programs, and local transportation are usually provided, too. This community, a comprehensive independent living community, allows you to do as you wish, when you wish, but without the burdens of home ownership that can tie you down and take up your time. Serving both individuals and couples, these senior communities are also known as senior apartments, retirement villages, and communities for 55 and older. Residents stay in private apartments or individual homes with a variety of community amenities, services, and programs tailored specifically for seniors. Your personal belongings, such as furniture and favorite mementos, can move to your new home with you. With maintenance, groundskeeping, and housekeeping taken care of, seniors can focus on goals and passions instead of the daily demands of home ownership. Because independent living communities are intended for older adults who need little or no assistance, most do not offer medical care or supervision. Community services and amenities usually include fitness clubs, dining facilities, swimming pools, golf courses, hiking trails, social events, and more. The personal interests of memory care residents at The Chesapeake are always honored and respected. Along with the care and detailed attention they receive from specialists in Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, they are encouraged by dedicated staff to pursue the things they love, and always with a spirit of compassion, trust, and teamwork. Memory care is different from the care provided in assisted living, requiring a dedicated staff that is skilled in techniques unique to memory care. Residents live in private or semi-private residences with twenty-four-hour support. Three healthy meals a day plus snacks are provided, as well as housekeeping and laundry services. Structured activities designed specifically for memory impairment support mental stimulation. Grounds typically have secured areas, such as walking paths and gardens, for residents to enjoy. Behavioral therapies, continence care, medication management, and assistance with bathing and grooming are provided as well. Continuing care retirement communities (CCRC) are dedicated to making the phases of the aging process as smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible. It achieves this through offering long-term, comprehensive assistance, from independent living to assisted living to skilled nursing care. Some seniors, as they age and begin to need assistance, simply do not wish to leave the place they’ve called home for many years. Sometimes they bought their dream home upon retirement. A caring, in-home staff understands this and is dedicated to making seniors as comfortable and as satisfied as they can possibly be. Services are available twenty-four-hours a day, seven days a week. Home care includes various medical and non-medical support services. When you are ready for assistance, medical and non-medical professionals are ready to help with a wide range of services. Nursing homes provide care of chronic conditions as well as shorter-term convalescent and rehab care. A skilled staff and licensed nurses provide 24/7 health care when needed as well as assistance with the activities of daily living, including grooming, dressing, and help with using the bathroom. Most residents share a room, with healthy meals provided in a central dining room. An activity director designs an activity and events plan to cultivate mental, physical, and social health. An assisted living community provides help when necessary with the goal of supplying the services required to stay as autonomous as possible. With independent living, you can do as you wish, when you wish, but without the burdens of home ownership that can take up your time.
