User Reviews

This center specializes in the treatment and maintenance of mentally ill persons, predominantly. They work closely with the area's two psychiatric hospitals, Eastern State Hospital and Sacred Heart Medical Center as well as the area's outpatient mental health clinic known as Spokane Mental Health. The Carlyle takes in people from Department of Corrections, veterans, and the homeless. It is a very diverse coommunity and staff have many demands placed upon them - however, they are efficient in their delivery of care and are very observant of their residents' mental and mood status. They chart on their residents, deliver medications, assess vital signs and respond to emergencies. They often handle a variety of tasks at once, and those working at the Carlyle are known for being able to keep many tasks at the forefront of their mind during their shift. The hardest part for a new nurse assistant is learning who all the residents are, as people. Daily activities are provided at the Carlyle, from Bingo to movies to crafts to outings for shopping, and even trips to Silverwood Theme Park in neighboring Idaho. Many in the neighborhood have thought this was a psych ward, but it is not. The neighborhood is the only drawback to the Carlyle - it is located in the southern edge of downtown, not much scenery but cement, a Dominoes pizza and a Mexican Restaurant. The Carlyle is also not for profit, owned by Pioneer Human Services, specializing in exactly what their name says.
