LPNs are in charge with minimal RN involvement. Too many patients for CNAs and the LPNs rarely get up from the desk, Maybe the new director of nursing will clean up the place and put the LPNs back on the job. They spend most of their time sitting at the desk gossiping and complaining. Common attitude is, we are union, they can't do anything to us. A large turnover of staff has occurred recently including the former director of nursing - so hopefully that will result in better care and better staffing. The LTC side seems to be cleaner and better managed whereas the other side of the bldg. seems to house the laziest of LPNs and very few but mostly over worked CNAs. Many of the patients are unhappy with the lack of care and the constant ignoring of the lights. One view in the short term or transitional care side drug cart will give you a shock - old pudding left in the drawers to be mixed with pills and multiple drugs dropped under the trays which means patients are NOT getting their meds. This does not seem to be a concern with the LPNs who are responsible for the drug cart. If staff paid as much attention to patients as they did their gossip, meal orders and purse purchases then the patients would get world class 5 star treatment.
