1- Nasty front desk later with no filter or professionalism.
2- When I spoke to the Manager said they have half of their guests are diabetic and are a 4-store residence. However, now my dad just let me know they gave him the wrong insulin and "it is the first time it's ever happened." are you SERIOUS!?!?! They are playing with my dad's life. DO NOT go here!
3- Oh, and the food is worse than high school cafeteria food given to you in styrofoam. unacceptable and not eco-friendly.

My sister has been in for rehab for two weeks. From the first day she arrived she has been well taken care of. The meals are great. Rooms are clean and she is getting great care. She was in another rehab in the Falls and had extrenely poor care and then had another stroke. I am thankful for Virgina highlands
ability to care for their patients and set positive goals to help patients recover. My sister smiles and has confidence in her ability to get better with the help of Virgina Highlands staff.

As sad as it is to say, but this nursing home should be closed indefinitely. As a past employee, I witnessed many harmful and neglectful behavior. I tried my hardest to give the best care I possibly could, but being overworked and having to consider the number of residents rather than their level of care needed, I was ashamed to work here. As first look, it seems like an amazing place and I was pretty impressed with the grounds. Over the course of a few weeks, I realized I would NEVER put one of my own loved ones in this facility. I floated from unit to unit, typically one the Long-Term unit, but every unit had the same problems. Residents were not being toileted consistently, fed on time, comforted, and did not provide an ideal quality of life. I left after 9 months because I did not want to be associated with this facility any longer. The CNA's do not have the necessary time to provide the residents with all the care they need and the nurse's aren't very helpful either. Upper management turns a blind-eye to most issues, even when dealing with staff. Do not place your loved ones here, please look elsewhere.

MY MOTHER WAS AT THIS FACILITY FOR THREE YEARS. THE FACILITY HAS GONE DOWN FOR THE LAST YEAR. IT SMELLS AND IS VERY DIRTY IN THE MEMORY LANE UNIT. MY MOTHER WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE BATHROOM AND FREQUENTLY WET HER SELF AND HER CHAIR. SHE WAS NOT SHOWERED OR KEPT CLEAN. I WOULD FIND WET DIAPERS AND CLOTHES IN HER DRAWER OR ON HER BED. AFTER MANY MEETINGS WITH THE STAFF NONE OF THE ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED. THANKFULLY WE HAVE NOW MOVED HER TO A NEW FACILITY. DO NOT PUT YOUR PARENT OR LOVED ONE THRU THIS.

    01/13/2010  -  An Current/Past Employee Writes:

As a past employee, I can personally say that this place is the worst place to put a family member in, especially one who has dementia or who needs intensive skilled nursing care. I've worked in the Dementia Unit and have witnessed residents wetting themselves because they don't get toileted. I've seen family members coming in to feed and shave the residents because the CNA's don't do it. Last year State came in and fined the facility hundreds of thousands of dollars and put a stop to admission. This year they're back again due to resident complaints and it's not even time for annuals yet. So look somewhere else for a home for your loved ones. This places isn't good.

Response: I totally agree, management should be ashamed of what is going on in that building. I would never bring my loved one there!!!!!
