08/10/2016  -  An Interested Visitor Writes:

In late May 2016, we had no option but to place my terminal 44 year old nephew in Sheridan Medical Complex. I have never been as appalled as I was when I visited him in this facility. I witnessed a "Nurse" tell him he would have to wait to get his pain meds "because she had not sat down since 2:30 that afternoon; this was at approx. 6:30pm. When I spoke up, she said she would bring them outside where we were sitting. After 45 minutes, he walked inside to again ask for pain meds and was again told she would bring them out. Never happened and when we all went inside, we brought it up yet again. At that point we were told "she was on her way to a break". Now I was angry and she then moved to the cart to get his meds out. After waiting another 20 minutes, we had to leave and he still had never gotten those pain meds. Let me explain, he had Stage 4 lung cancer that had already spread throughout his body and several organs including his brain. If nothing else, he deserved to be given those pain meds asap if he requested them. I have had other relatives on nursing care facilities and I have never witnessed such a lack of caring or disregard for a person in pain and battling a life ending disease. Heartbreaking was the only word to describe the situation. This facility should not be allowed to care for an animal with the staff that they have and someone should do a complete inspection of the place. The exterior chairs to sit on with patients were ready to fall apart and had exposed rusty metal stakes that went through a shirt when you sat down. It did not look clean and was just overall terrible. If there is anything you can do with a loved one, avoid this facility at all costs.

Response: Did you the Interested Visitor bring your concerns to the Administrator or Director of Nursing? These two key positions are here to address any concerns and are available 24/7 in any Nursing Home. It takes a family (including you) in ensuring each resident is provided the absolute best & timely healthcare available. This avenue does not help your family member.
