Please please please avoid at all costs. Don't have the energy or patience to go into everything....this is after only one day. She's here for PT after a major surgery. If it wasn't so late in the day on a Saturday, I would take my mother somewhere else. Will be spending the night for her medical safety...please don't bring your loved one's here.

I was an employee at the Francis House for over 3 years. When I first started it was a wonderful, happy, great place for the residents. Although some residents are still very happy, a lot of them started decline in major part to the lack of having an activities department because of new management at the Francis House. It's a known fact that people with dementia related illnesses need activities to slow down the process of brain deterioration. Without activities, the residents are sitting there staring at the TV and their brain is literally wasting away--hence the big decline.

If your loved one has moderate to severe dementia, I would not recommend this assisted living facility.

Response: I agree with you that Francis House was certainly a wonderful place. My mother, Virginia, was a resident from Sept. 2006 until she had to move to the Villa in May, 2008. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the aides, the nursing care, the creative problem solving, and the overall positive atmosphere and cleanliness during that time. I would like to see some comments from family/staff since the time of my mother's passing in July of 2008. It makes me sad that such a superb elder care facility may no longer be operating at as high of a level as it formerly did.

Response: Yes I was an employee there also and the care that is given to the residents in the front building-Villa isn't always good and that has alot to do with the under staffing and care for there employees in the first place. The facility doesn't care about the people that try to make it a great place so there fore the employees aren't happy. The place is ran by people that only care about the top dogs not the people that make those top dogs look good. There isn't a feeling of family among the employees therefore don't expect it to be there for the residents all the time. This facility is only worried about how far they can push there employees before they break. I wouldn't put my parents in this facility, Thank you.

My mother has been a resident of Franciscan Gardens for over a year. She has moderate dementia and lives in a safe and beautiful apartment with a view of the enclosed garden walk. The staff have been very professional and helpful. My mom is happy. There are activities that are varied every day. She loves walking to the ice cream parlor and due to her memory deficit it's a new adventure every time. I thank the staff and my lucky stars that she has adjusted well. The facility is very clean, the meals are great, they have decorated well to have it appear like a great hotel lobby. I have had to make a few requests and every time the response has been rapid and changes were made.

For seniors who need continuous, long-term medical support or short-term rehabilitation, nursing homes are a good option. The level of care depends on the medical needs of each resident, but typically residents receive nursing support and daily assistance with the activities of living, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing. Encompassing a broad range of living arrangements and care options, senior living is designed to provide you with all that you need to live as comfortably and enjoyably as possible.
